Living, Learning, and Building My Own Version of the American Dream

I’m Kazi Naznin — a lifelong learner, a builder of reliable systems, and someone who meets every challenge with energy and intention.

My Career Journey: From Starter to Quality Engineering Leader

When I first arrived in New York City at the age of 14, I didn’t know what the future held, I just knew I had to work hard. I juggled two jobs while attending high school in The Bronx, driven by a simple, unshakable belief: I wanted to climb, to grow, to build a better life.

My journey into tech wasn’t linear. I studied Mechanical Engineering at CUNY City College of Technology while working full-time, grinding through exhaustion to stay afloat. With the unwavering support of my siblings, I was able to take six months off work to pursue a Quality Assurance course. That was turning point that launched me into my first role in the software industry.

From there, I built my career brick by brick. I worked my way from QA Engineer to QA Lead to SDET Manager. I didn’t just grow within teams — I built them. I led hiring initiatives, redesigned processes, introduced automation-first strategies, and fostered a culture where quality wasn’t just a checkpoint but a shared commitment.

Every challenge, whether it was tackling a new technology or navigating the corporate world as a woman of color, taught me resilience. I didn’t wait for doors to open, I relentlessly paved my own paths through obstacles.

My Life Journey: Resilience, Family, and the Power of Self-Belief

Growing up as an immigrant was a daily lesson in adaptability. Every day in the US was a first, the first time learning something new like learning English, solving a new problem like being a cashier and interacting with customers without understanding US monetary system. The struggle was real, but so was the blessing. I learned quickly that growth comes when you step into the unknown.

My family’s support is the foundation of everything I’ve achieved. When I wanted to invest in my education, my siblings lifted me up so I could focus on my goals. Later, I was able to return the favor by supporting them. Our journey is a shared one, built on sacrifice, love, and mutual empowerment.

My friends have also shaped me. They challenge me to dream bigger, take risks, and try new experiences. They’ve inspired me to aim higher — and I always do.

CrossFit was another turning point in my life. It wasn’t just about fitness, it was the moment I realized I am strong, both physically and mentally. I found activities that feed my soul: hiking, skiing, traveling — whether solo or with friends, these are the moments where I feel most alive.

Where I Am Now

Today, I lead quality engineering teams, mentor future leaders, and champion automation and AI-driven testing strategies. I’m passionate about building scalable systems, creating meaningful processes, and helping others grow into their best selves.

I’m not just chasing titles, I’m building communities of trust, impact, and innovation. I’m always on the move, not because I’m trying to escape where I’ve been, but because I believe in the endless possibilities of where I can go next.

Looking Ahead

I can’t wait for what’s next! I see myself leading engineering teams, driving innovation, and helping shape the future of quality and engineering leadership. I’m passionate about creating workplaces where diversity isn’t just encouraged but it’s celebrated. I want to mentor people like me, especially those who might not see themselves represented at the top, and show them they absolutely belong there.

I’m excited to keep growing, pushing my leadership skills, and taking courses from top educational programs to sharpen my impact and build the skills that will take me even further.

Outside the office, I dream of launching a vegetable farm and opening a chai and coffee shop; a places where people can pause, connect, and feel part of something bigger.

Whether I’m leading teams or planting seeds, I know my journey of learning and building has just begun — and I’m ready to grow, for myself and for everyone rising with me.
